SquirrelMail 1.4.x skins can't be implemented without lots of mofications in core scripts. All features listed in their pages are provided by some SquirrelMail plugin. Theoretically scripts can function without images, but interface will look broken. Nutsmail tries to abuse GPL by linking copyrighted binary objects (images) to GPLed scripts.

The important thing is not to give them any free advertising. Quite a lot of weenies fail to understand what the GPL obligates one to do. In fact, such distribution implicitly licensed Nutsmail itself under the GPL. Their EULA is unenforceable because the very act of distributing a set of files which can only work with Squirrelmail means that their right to use Squirrelmail at all is revoked should they try to prevent Nutsmail's redistribution. See their EULA It can't be violation because the source and binaries are the same, so they can't not ship source to anyone they ship binaries to. It is GPL abuse and maybe even violation. Both are IMAP clients, so just frontends will switch.Nutsmail is not "3rd party implementation of SquirrelMail". So the advice to set up things in parallel and after while switch off Squirrelmail is probably the most sane thing to do. Now, 5 years later, I am planning an exit strategy, as I do not use most of the features and I do not feel very good to have all my communication running over Googles servers. I did that for my private stuff and was initially very pleased. Migrating everything to Google Mail could be an option when you get the proper budget and are not restricted by regulations or policies. I did that same migration some years ago, for a small scale email server and actually no one complained about having a better interface, but this is highly dependent on the users. Also the last update seems to have been 7 years ago.: You really should replace it, as it is based on PHP5 and therefore it should be considered insecure.
